Als is part of the Danish South Sea and can be reached very quickly from the German Glücksburg. Sønderborg, the largest city on the island, is separated from the mainland only by a narrow sound. Here you should definitely visit the magnificent castle if you spend your vacations in the area. The agricultural Als offers beautiful beaches and excellent hiking and biking trails. Impressive are the many ancient tombs made of huge stone blocks, called dolmens.
