Bayreuth

Travel Guide & Travel Information
The city on the banks of the Red Main in southwestern Upper Franconia, first mentioned in a document in 1194 as "Baierrute", has been globally known since 1876 above all for the Richard Wagner Festival held in the opera house on the "Green Hill". Music lovers from all over the world travel to this world-famous event every year in July and August, and getting hold of tickets is a real feat. The grounds with the Richard Wagner Park can also be visited during the rest of the year. The same applies to the "Margravial Opera House" in the center, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bayreuth also delights its visitors with many historic churches as well as castles and palaces: Schloss Eremitage including its park from the early 18th century is particularly worth seeing.
