North America

North America is the third largest continent on earth in terms of area. It was named in 1507 after the Italian navigator and explorer Amerigo Vespuzzi. All climate zones are represented in North America: From the polar zone in northern Canada to the tropical zone in Florida. This is not the case on any other continent on earth. The highest mountain in North America is Denali, formerly Mount McKinley, in Alaska. It is almost 6200 meters high. The lowest point on the continent, on the other hand, is in Death Valley, California. The Badwater depression is 85 meters below sea level and is home to a salt water pond.
