Those who have enjoyed the beaches of Anguilla, rave for a lifetime about the snow-white sand that feels like powdered sugar there. This is one of the islands "above the wind" of the Lesser Antilles. It was named by none other than Christopher Columbus, as "Anguilla" stands for "eel." Anguilla rises from the turquoise sea to a length of 25 kilometers, but measures only five kilometers at its widest point. So this is an island like an "eel." The highest hill, Crocus Hill, is 65 meters high. Those who travel to Anguilla must use the ferry from Saint Martin/Saint Maarten, because there is no airport.
