Travel Guide 2022
There is a lack of water and fertile soil - Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world and suffers to a particular extent from climate change. The people in this part of West Africa repeatedly complain of droughts and thus crop failures, and countless small farmers in this landlocked country are threatened in their existence. The country name Burkina Faso translates as "land of upright people". Somehow it is a contradiction that the most important film festival in Africa is taking place in this famine-stricken country of all places. And this despite the fact that there are just twelve cinemas in Burkina Faso. Every two years, the capital Ouagadougou hosts this event. The metropolis with its name that is difficult to pronounce for German tongues was for centuries the centre of the feudalistically structured Mosi empire with a god-king and 333 vassals. The Moro Naba, the regent of the Mosi, is still revered by his followers in Burkina Faso. A weekly ceremony in traditional robes takes place in his palace in Ouagadougou.
