The Central African Republic is a landlocked country in Central Africa bordered by Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Congo, Cameroon and the Republic of Congo. The country was colonized by France in the late 19th century and gained independence in 1960. Although rich in mineral resources, the Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world. Major attractions include the Dzanga-Sangha National Park, Bangui Cathedral and Manovo-Gounda St. Floris National Park.
