Comoros is an independent archipelago in the Indian Ocean in southeast Africa. It consists of three main islands and numerous smaller islands. Comoros was formerly a French colony and gained its independence in 1975. The capital and largest city is Moroni. Comoros is known for its beautiful beaches and coral reefs. Sights include Mount Karthala, an active volcano, the beaches of Chomoni and the National Museum in Moroni.
