Fiji is an island nation in the South Pacific and consists of more than 300 islands. The capital is Suva on the island of Viti Levu. The country was formerly a British colony and became independent in 1970. Fiji is known for its rugged landscapes, palm-fringed beaches and coral reefs with crystal clear lagoons. Among the most famous attractions are the Fiji Museum in Suva, the Thurston Gardens and the numerous beaches and islands.
