Guide to Finland
The Republic of Finland in Northern Europe is one of the most sparsely populated countries on our continent. More than 80 percent of the country is forested. One third of the total area stretches north of the Arctic Circle. This includes Lapland: according to popular belief, this is where Santa Claus is said to be at home.
Finland’s capital is Helsinki, a stronghold of classicism. In addition, the influence of Art Nouveau architecture can be seen everywhere in the metropolis. The Suomenlinna Fortress, built on several offshore islands, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be reached by ferry.
