Guadeloupe is a group of islands and an overseas department of France in the Caribbean Sea, located south of Antigua and Barbuda and north of Dominica. The islands consist of four inhabited and several uninhabited islands and are known for their beaches, French cuisine and Caribbean culture. The islands were discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and have been occupied by various European nations throughout history. Popular attractions include the Guadeloupe National Park, the Deshaies Botanical Gardens, the Carbet Waterfalls, and the Îles des Saintes.
