Guernsey is an autonomous island in the English Channel. It is British Crown property, but not part of the United Kingdom. Guernsey is the second largest of the Channel Islands and consists of ten parishes on Guernsey itself, three other inhabited islands (Herm, Jethou, and Lihou), and numerous small islands and rocks. Guernsey has a mixed British-Norman culture, with a stronger British influence. The traditional language of Guernésiais is spoken on the island. Places of interest include the Castle Cornet fortress, the German Occupation Museum, and the harbor front of St. Peter Port.
