Kuwait is a country in western Asia, on the northern edge of eastern Arabia, at the end of the Persian Gulf. It borders Iraq to the north and Saudi Arabia to the south. Most of the population lives in the metropolitan area of the capital, Kuwait City. Historically, Kuwait was a strategic trading port between Mesopotamia, Persia and India. Starting in 1946, large oil deposits were discovered and extensive modernization measures were financed. Kuwait is an emirate and is ruled by the Al-Sabah family. The official religion is Islam and the currency is the Kuwait Dinar, the most valuable currency in the world. Major attractions include the Kuwait National Museum, Kuwait Tower and Al Kout Mall.
