Kyrgyzstan, officially the Kyrgyz Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Asia. It borders Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, Tajikistan to the south, and the People's Republic of China to the east. The history of Kyrgyzstan dates back to the 13th century and includes the Mongol, Tsar, and Soviet eras. Kyrgyzstan gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. The main attractions of the country are Lake Issyk-Kul, the Tien Shan mountain range, Ala-Archa National Park and the city of Osh.
