Malta is an island republic in the Mediterranean Sea, located south of Sicily and northeast of Tunisia. The history of the country is marked by various rulers, including Romans, Arabs, Normans, Knights of St. John and British. Typical of the country are the unique megalithic temples, considered the oldest freestanding structures in the world, as well as the beautiful beaches and clear blue waters. Other attractions include the Grand Master's Palace in Valletta, the Blue Grotto and the Hypogeum of Ħal-Saflieni.
