Montserrat is a British overseas territory in the Caribbean and part of the Lesser Antilles island chain. The island was severely damaged by the eruption of the Soufrière Hills volcano in 1995, forcing most of the inhabitants to leave. Volcanic activity continues to this day and the area around the former capital, Plymouth, is closed. Nevertheless, there are some attractions on the island, including the Garibaldi Hill viewpoint in Isles Bay, from which the destruction of Plymouth can be seen, and the Montserrat Volcano Observatory. In 2022, construction began on a new harbor and town called Little Bay.
