Palau is an island nation in the western Pacific Ocean, southeast of the Philippines and north of Papua New Guinea. It was a United Nations Trust Territory under the administration of the United States before becoming independent in 1994. Characteristic features of the country include rich marine life and prehistoric stone monoliths. Places of interest include Jellyfish Lake, Babeldaob Island with its spectacular nature and the stone columns of Palau.
