The Republic of Congo is located on the west coast of Central Africa and is bordered by Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola and the Atlantic Ocean. The region was inhabited by Bantu-speaking tribes 3,000 years ago and became part of the French colony of Equatorial Africa. The Republic of Congo was founded on November 28, 1958 and gained independence from France in 1960. The country's most famous landmarks include the city of Brazzaville, Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park and Odzala-Kokoua National Park.
