Reunion is a French island in the Indian Ocean, known for its volcanic landscape, rainforests and beaches. The island is home to the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise, the extinct volcano Piton des Neiges and the three calderas of Reunion. The island was originally settled by Arabs and later became a Dutch, Portuguese and French colony. Today, Reunion is a French overseas department and is part of the European Union. Places of interest include the Piton de la Fournaise volcano, Reunion National Park, the Avenue of Volcanoes, Les Trois Cascades waterfall and Boucan Canot beach.
