Saint-Barthélemy, also called St. Barts, is a French-speaking Caribbean island in the northeastern Lesser Antilles. The island was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and later occupied by Sweden and France. Today, it is a luxurious vacation destination with white sand beaches, exclusive designer stores and fine restaurants. Sights include historic structures such as the Wall House and Fort Karl, as well as the protected Gustavia Harbor, which is frequented by numerous yachts. Typical for the island is the mixture of French flair and Caribbean charm.
