Saint Lucia is an island nation in the eastern Caribbean and part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago. The country gained independence in 1979, but remains part of the Commonwealth. The island is known for its picturesque landscapes, white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The capital, Castries, is an important port and a popular tourist destination. Popular attractions include Pigeon Island National Park, Diamond Botanical Gardens and Sulphur Springs Park.
