Saint-Pierre and Miquelon is a French overseas territory in the North Atlantic east of Canada. The archipelago looks back on an eventful history, marked by conflicts between France and Great Britain and serving, among other things, as an important base for alcohol smuggling during Prohibition in the USA. Today, the islands are known for their picturesque French-style villages, culinary specialties such as smoked fish and cheese, and a variety of hiking, fishing and boating opportunities. Worth seeing are the archaeology museum in the port of Saint-Pierre, the Albert Briand cultural center, the museum village of Pointe aux Canons, and Cap aux Diamants with its impressive cliffs and lighthouses.
