San Marino is a landlocked southern European country completely surrounded by Italy. With an area of about 60 km² and a population of only about 30,000 inhabitants, San Marino is one of the smallest states in the world. San Marino is often referred to as the oldest existing republic in the world, dating back to 301. The state is known for its thriving economy, low unemployment and low national debt. Sights include the three towers of Monte Titano and the Museo di Stato.
