Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten is an autonomous country of the Netherlands, which includes the southern part of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. The northern part belongs to the French overseas territory of Saint Martin. The island is known for its lagoons, beaches and colorful colonial architecture in the capital, Philipsburg. The city's port is a major port of call for cruise ships. Sint Maarten has a turbulent history, shaped by the Spanish, French, Dutch and British. Today it is a popular tourist destination with many attractions such as Maho Beach, where spectacular airplane landings take place, and Great Bay Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
