South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are a British overseas territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean. It consists of the island of South Georgia and a chain of smaller islands, the South Sandwich Islands. The archipelago is almost uninhabited and has no regular transport links, but there are limited visits by cruise ships. The islands' economy is based on fishing for Antarctic toothfish. South Georgia also has a rich fauna with penguins, seabirds and seals.
