Switzerland – or officially the Swiss Confederation – is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Almost half of the country’s area belongs to the Alps. The Dufourspitze in the Monte Rosa massif is the country’s highest peak at 4634 metres. The capital, Bern, is one of the top ten cities with the highest quality of life in the world. It has more than 100 fountains, and with the Zytglogge clock tower, the baroque town hall and the Käfigturm, it has many sights worth seeing. Switzerland is a major winter sports destination and an important banking and financial centre. Furthermore, the country is known for its many lakes and quaint villages.
