Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordering Kyrgyzstan to the north, China to the east, Afghanistan to the south, and Uzbekistan to the west. The country's history is marked by various empires and dynasties, including the Achaemenid Empire, the Sassanid Empire, the Timurid Empire and the Soviet Union. The country's main attractions include the capital Dushanbe, the Pamir Mountains and the ancient city of Penjikent.
