Tuvalu is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, consisting of nine atolls and coral islands. The islands were settled by Polynesians about 2000 years ago. In the 19th century, more and more Europeans came to the islands because of whaling and the slave trade. Since 1978 Tuvalu is a sovereign state with a parliamentary monarchy and member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Among the attractions are especially the beautiful beaches and the colorful underwater world, which invite you to snorkel and dive.
