Yemen is a state in the south of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Saudi Arabia, Oman and the Arabian Sea. In 1990, the two former states of Yemen Arab Republic (JAR) and People's Democratic Republic of Yemen united to form the current state. Yemen has been in a civil war for years, which has led to a humanitarian crisis and is considered one of the most unstable states in the world. Well-known sights in Yemen are the historic city of Sanaa with its adobe buildings and the old city of Shibam.
