Together with Krk, Cres is the northernmost and largest island in Croatia. Cres is located in the northern part of the Kvarner Bay and is connected to the neighboring island of Losinj in the south by a swing bridge. While there are numerous bays with pebble beaches on the south and west coasts, the north and east coasts of the island are very rocky. Unlike most other islands in Croatia, Cres is very "mountainous". With Gorice and Sis, the island has two mountains over 600 meters high. From the summits there is a fantastic panoramic view over the Kvarner Bay. A scenic highlight of the island is the freshwater lake Vrana, whose surface is above and its deepest point is below sea level.
