Two hours from Gothenburg lies the historic province of Dalsland. Here, between the border with Norway and Lake Värnern, the landscape is particularly idyllic and diverse, which is why the province is also known as "Sweden in miniature".

Already settled since the Stone Age, the sparsely populated region is also historically highly interesting, because with over 5,000 archaeological finds, rock paintings from the Bronze Age near Dals-Langed and unspoiled stretches of land, Dalsland fascinates and touches its visitors in a very special way.

The picturesque province of 1,000 lakes

As the region with the most lakes in Sweden, Dalsland is an attraction for nature lovers. Characterized by lakes, vast forests and unspoiled nature, Dalsland is a true paradise for hikers, anglers, canoeists and kayakers and, of course, for anyone who wants to enjoy the peaceful tranquility of nature.

While the north of Dalsland offers clear forest lakes and deep primeval forests, the south attracts with shallow sandy beaches and bathing rocks. In the whole of Dalsland nature shows itself with a fascinating flora and fauna and so especially families with children take the opportunity to go berry and mushroom hunting in the forests of the region in summer.

Adventure Region Dalsland

Dalsland is a very special region, escalators, traffic lights, parking machines and McDonalds and Co. are not to be found here. Instead, authentic small towns, picturesque landscapes and a dreamlike tranquility, which is rarely found in this form.

One of the highlights of the region, not only for children, are moose tours, which are offered in many places. However, moose can also be discovered in the wild during hikes. Anglers, on the other hand, are enthusiastic about the abundance of fish in the region, because salmon, trout, pike and perch can be caught here. The dreamlike lakes with their beautiful bathing spots, sunbathing areas and diving towers offer optimal conditions for swimming and sunbathing.

Another attraction of Dalsland is the ten kilometer long Dalsland Canal. Created as an important link between Lake Vänern and Lake Stora. Once an important transport route, the canal is now mainly used for boat trips. Not only excursion boats leave from the harbor in Haaverud, but motorboats and canoes can also be rented here. A visit to Mellerud is also worthwhile, as this is where Sweden's most famous aqueduct can be found. The trough bridge from 1886 is one of the most fascinating bridges in the country.

But you can also enjoy urban flair in Dalsland. Probably the most beautiful town in the region can be found at the southern end of Lake Lalang. Bengtsfors offers many small stores that invite you to browse. But the lively little town inspires above all by its unique, cozy atmosphere. You won't find any big cities, but enchanting places like Aamaal, Dals Ed, Färgelanda and Mellerud will attract you.

On tours through the region, you will also find numerous traditional farms, which invite you to linger with their farm cafés and offer fresh fruit, vegetables and regional specialties in the associated farm store. In addition, there are sights such as the church of Skaalleruds, which is known as the most beautiful church in Sweden, and small museums also delight visitors to Dalsland.
