Darmstadt

Travel Guide & Travel Information
Darmstadt is not only a major city in Hesse, but also an important economic and cultural center of the state. Media, IT and pharmaceutical companies feel just as much at home here as universities and colleges as well as renowned cultural institutions. Since 2021, the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Russian Chapel and the Wedding Tower are two of the city's most important architectural monuments. The Darmstadt artists' colony on Mathildenhöhe is also reminiscent of a culturally formative period. Last but not least, the striking Darmstadt Residence Palace underscores that a visit to this major Hessian city is worthwhile. And with Frankfurt and Mainz each about 35 kilometers away, Darmstadt is a suitable starting point for tourist excursions.
