Travel Guide 2021

Denmark is a parliamentary monarchy in northern Europe and is geographically part of Scandinavia. The country includes more than 1000 islands, but only a few of them are inhabited. It has five official World Heritage Sites, including the world-famous Roskilde Cathedral. Of particular cultural and historical interest is the country’s capital, Copenhagen. The landmark “The Little Mermaid”, the impressive Christiansborg Castle, the picturesque harbour Nyhavn as well as the amusement park Tivoli are only a few examples of the sights of the metropolis. One of the most famous Danes is the poet and writer Hans Christian Andersen (1805 to 1875), whose fairy tales are loved by countless children. The Kingdom of Denmark is the smallest and southernmost country in Scandinavia.
