This city in the Ruhr region will be familiar to all soccer fans, as it is home to the Borussia Dortmund soccer club. During more than 100 air raids during World War II, the historic city center was almost completely destroyed and today features a cityscape characterized by post-war buildings. However, some historic buildings have survived and allow a glimpse into the city's long history. More recent is the city's landmark: the Dortmunder U is an industrial high-rise built in 1926, which is now a listed building. On the roof is a nine-meter-high U that was once installed there as the logo of the Union brewery, which was located in the building. Unlike what many expect of the Ruhr region, Dortmund has numerous green spaces. Among them are the Westfalen Park and the Schlosspark.
