The island of Favignana belongs to the Sicilian province of Trapani and is the largest Aegean island. The island has a rich historical past. Thanks to various cave finds, it is certain that it has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It also became famous because of the last battle of the First Punic War, which was fought in front of the island. Over the years, several detention centers were built, some of which are still in use today. Visitors can reach Favignana from Trapani by boat. The small bays and crystal clear sea water are particularly popular. Sports enthusiasts can explore the numerous grottoes by snorkeling or diving.
