Syros
The name of the island originally means something like "rocky" - and that aptly describes what awaits you on Syros. In addition to the rugged natural formations, the island is home to the administrative center of the Cyclades. Accordingly, it is busy here all year round. Here you will especially meet Greeks from the mainland; international tourists are rather less to be found here. The cultural side is not neglected here either, and churches, a theater and a library are among the most important places on the island. If you are looking for beautiful beaches, you will find them on the southern and western side.
The ferry port on the island of Syros offers connections to the other Greek islands of Andros, Donoussa, Tinos, Folegandros, Amorgos, Mykonos, Lesbos, Samos, Kimolos, Kalymnos, Kos, Thira, Thirasia, Paros, Ios, Ikaria, Serifos, Kythnos, Milos, Chios, Rhodes, Fournoi, Crete, Patmos, Oinousses, Schinoussa, Astypalea, Naxos, Sikinos, Koufonissi, Symi, Kea, Iraklia, Leros, Sifnos, Euboea, Limnos and Anafi as well as to the ports of Thessaloniki, Kavala, Piraeus and Lavrio on the Greek mainland. A total of 45 routes are offered here several times a day by the shipping companies Cyclades Fast Ferries, SeaJets, Blue Star Ferries, Minoan Lines and Hellenic Seaways.
Kalymnos
If you are an ambitious sport climber, then the island of Kalymnos, which covers an abundant 100 km², is an almost ideal destination in the Aegean Sea. The village of Massouri in the west of the island is the tourist center. From here you can go to the climbing hotspots. Kalymnos is the island name, and the island capital of the same name is alternatively called Pothia. The trip here takes half an hour by ferry from Kos. Historical sights are the castle of Chora or the white rock monastery in the village of Panormos in the west of the island. On Kalymnos you can enjoy a sunny vacation all year round - for example in the bathing paradise at Vlichadia Beach or at the beach of Palionisos.
The ferry port on the island of Kalymnos offers connections to the other Greek islands of Agathonisi, Chalki, Samos, Karpathos, Nisyros, Kos, Ikaria, Lipsi, Rhodes, Fournoi, Syros, Patmos, Astypalea, Tilos, Symi, Arki, Kasos, Leros and Kastelorizo, as well as to the ferry port of Piraeus on the Greek mainland. A total of 22 routes are offered here several times a day by the shipping companies Sky Marine, Dodekanisos Seaways, Hellenic Seaways, Blue Star Ferries, Lafasi and Anem Fer ries.
