Vulcano
Vulcano, the southernmost island of the Lipari archipelago, is considered the ancestral mother of all volcanoes. According to ancient legend, the god Vulcanus operated his forge here. When you see the steam of the fumaroles and breathe in the sulfur vapors, you can imagine how the ancient Greeks came up with this idea. The natural fango springs were already used by the Romans for spa purposes. The uphill hike to the crater is easy and quick. At the port you will find restaurants. The black lava beaches are a much loved attraction. You will never forget the sight of the Dead Field with the offshore fumarole zone. Bathing in the naturally heated sea will be a unique experience.
The ferry port on the island of Vulcano offers connections to the other Italian islands of Stromboli, Salina, Sicily, Alicudi, Panarea, Lipari and Filicudi, as well as to the ports of Naples, Reggio Calabria, Ginostra and Vibo Valentia on the Italian mainland.
