Nisyros
The almost 50 km² large island of Nisyros is located south of Kos, not far from the Turkish mainland. Typical for Greek villages are also here the whitewashed houses with their colorful shutters. The narrow streets and alleys invite you to stroll and linger. An eye-catcher are the numerous floor mosaics, also called Hohlakia or Chochlakia. The no longer active volcano of Nisyros is worth a trip, as is the idyllic mountain village of Nikia, like Emporios as a village in proverbial slumber or like Pachia Ammos, the most beautiful beach of Nisyros.
The ferry port on the island of Nisyros offers connections to the other Greek islands of Rhodes, Tilos, Chalki, Fournoi, Symi, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Lipsi, Patmos, Kalymnos, Kos and Astypalea, as well as to the ferry port of Piraeus on the Greek mainland. A total of 14 routes are offered here several times a day by the shipping companies Blue Star Ferries, Dodekanisos Seaways and Hellenic Seaways.
