Syros
The name of the island originally means something like "rocky" - and that aptly describes what awaits you on Syros. In addition to the rugged natural formations, the island is home to the administrative center of the Cyclades. Accordingly, it is busy here all year round. Here you will especially meet Greeks from the mainland; international tourists are rather less to be found here. The cultural side is not neglected here either, and churches, a theater and a library are among the most important places on the island. If you are looking for beautiful beaches, you will find them on the southern and western side.
The ferry port on the island of Syros offers connections to the other Greek islands of Andros, Donoussa, Tinos, Folegandros, Amorgos, Mykonos, Lesbos, Samos, Kimolos, Kalymnos, Kos, Thira, Thirasia, Paros, Ios, Ikaria, Serifos, Kythnos, Milos, Chios, Rhodes, Fournoi, Crete, Patmos, Oinousses, Schinoussa, Astypalea, Naxos, Sikinos, Koufonissi, Symi, Kea, Iraklia, Leros, Sifnos, Euboea, Limnos and Anafi as well as to the ports of Thessaloniki, Kavala, Piraeus and Lavrio on the Greek mainland. A total of 45 routes are offered here several times a day by the shipping companies Cyclades Fast Ferries, SeaJets, Blue Star Ferries, Minoan Lines and Hellenic Seaways.
Sikinos
With only about 300 inhabitants, Sikinos is perfect for vacationers looking for peace and quiet. On this island there are both barren mountains and fertile valleys, and whoever wants can reach and visit all three places of the island in a relatively short time. However, extensive hiking is difficult on the island due to the steep slopes. One can definitely say that this island is something for vacationers who are looking for absolute peace and tranquility. Agriculture and fishing, along with tourism, are the main sources of income for the inhabitants, who live a modest life.
The ferry port on the island of Sikinos offers connections to the other Greek islands of Thira, Thirasia, Paros, Folegandros, Ios, Kea, Sifnos, Serifos, Milos, Kythnos, Kimolos, Anafi, Syros and Naxos, as well as to the ports of Piraeus and Lavrio on the Greek mainland.
