The shipping company was founded in Athens in 2000. It emerged from the “Strintzis Lines”, a family business from Kefalonia, which existed until the 1990s. Blue Star Ferries expanded and modernized the fleet and today owns 11 large ferries, which can accommodate a maximum of 2400 passengers. Currently (as of 2020), only domestic Greek routes are served. The schedule includes connections from the mainland to the islands of the Cyclades, the Dodecanese and the Northeast Aegean, i.e. to Chios, Lesvos, Ikaria, Fourni and Samos. On Crete, both the port of Souda near Chania and Heraklion are served. On the Adriatic route Greece – Italy Blue Star Ferries cooperates with the shipping company Superfast Ferries, which is also part of the Attica Group.
The ships of Blue Star Ferries are among the most popular in the Eastern Mediterranean and the shipping company is repeatedly awarded with various prizes. The ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications from 2005 confirm the high level of service and the environmental management system. With the customer loyalty card “Seasmiles” in the variants blue, silver and gold miles can be collected and later redeemed in various ways.
