The Campo dei Fiori is located in Rome's historic centre in the Parione district. The Campo dei Fiori is particularly famous for the fruit and vegetable market that takes place every morning. Local farmers offer their fresh produce and Roman women shop here for dinner.

Delicacies from Rome and Italy

The square gets by without any magnificent buildings or fountains and is one of the most popular squares in the Italian capital simply because of its special atmosphere. Especially in the evening tourists and locals enjoy the famous "Dolce Vita" here. A multitude of pubs, bars and restaurants line the square, making it a popular meeting place for tourists in the evenings. There are also many hotels and places to stay nearby. Night owls can enjoy the pleasant hustle and bustle until the early hours of the morning. Especially noteworthy: Campo dei Fiori is the only square in Rome where there is no church.

In ancient times, there was a large field of flowers on the Campo dei Fiori, to which the square owes its name. Later, a horse market was held here and in the Middle Ages heretics were executed on the Campo. The philosopher Giordano Bruno was burned as a heretic on the Campo, today a statue on the Campo dei Fiori reminds of the inglorious past of the Inquisition.

The whole area around the Campo is also very popular with tourists. There are countless small shops to discover and if you are looking for an original souvenir, this is the place to be.

Tip of the editors
