The Marché aux Fleurs takes place every day except Mondays and Sundays between 7.30 am and 5 pm on the Cours Saleya. A magnificent sea of flowers in all colors shines at the many stands and not for nothing it is said that the Nice Marché aux Fleurs is the most beautiful market on the entire coast. At the Cours de Saleya, the heart of Nice beats. On Mondays, visitors can stroll through the antique market on the square.

Flowers and other delicacies

Right in the heart of the old town, there is always a hustle and bustle and besides flowers, there are also delicious treats and food to discover at the market stalls. Since 1897, the merchants offer their goods for sale here. Beside the flowers, especially specialities from the region are offered. Many families of Nice buy fresh food for their daily needs here. Visitors should definitely try the small black olives from Nice. Very recommendable are also the "socca", which are offered everywhere at lunchtime. The pancakes made of chickpea flour used to be eaten mainly by construction workers. They were supplied by travelling merchants who transported the "soccas" on their motorbikes. And even today, many of these travelling merchants are still on the road at lunchtime with the speciality, which originated in Genoa.

Every Monday, the Cours Saleya is firmly in the hands of flea market and antique dealers. Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the Marché à la Brocante takes place instead of the flower market.

The Ponchettes

Those who visit the Cours Saleya should also have a look at the surrounding buildings. The flat row of houses that separates the Cours Saleya from the sea is specially worth seeing. In the former times, the so-called ponchettes accommodated some shipyards. Meanwhile, the row of houses accommodates fish traders and small grocery shops. In many cases, also chic restaurants spread out. In the Galerie de Ponchettes there are changing art exhibitions. The two baroque chapels Chapelle de la Miséricorde and Chapelle St-Suaire are also worth seeing.
