Frankenthal (Pfalz)

Frankenthal is located in the Palatinate and was one of the most important towns in the Electorate of Palatinate in the 16th to 18th centuries. The town area was probably settled ~5,000 years ago, a first documentary mention of the community dates back to 772. The foundation of the Augustinian Canons' Monastery in 1119 caused the town to flourish. It became the economic center of the region. Worth seeing and visiting today are the Erkenbert Museum, the historic city wall, the canal port, the Siegfried statue and the Little Red Riding Hood fountain. Various monument zones are designated in Frankenthal, such as Beethovenplatz, the old Jewish cemetery, the Four Elms, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz and Jahnplatz.
