Almost 30,000 inhabitants currently live in the town not far from the river Lech in the southwest of the district of Aichach-Friedberg on the city limits of Augsburg in the administrative district of Swabia. As a place "Fridberch" was first mentioned in writing in 1264, the geographical location between Bavaria, Swabia and Augsburg made the area in the course of the centuries often the scene of warlike conflicts. Among the most important local monuments are the remains of the city wall built from 1409, the Wittelsbach Castle built between the 13th and 16th centuries, including the local history museum, and the magnificent pilgrimage church of Herrgottsruh from 1753. The old town festival "Friedberger Zeit", celebrated every three years, and the parade on Shrove Tuesday are very popular.
