Known nationwide as a university city, home to Justus Liebig University, Giessen today offers a home to over 90,000 residents. The roots of the historically rich city can be traced back to the Middle Ages. One of Giessen's best-known cultural institutions is the Oberhessen Museum, which can be discovered as a universal museum in the city's Old Castle. In addition to the Old Castle, the New Castle is also one of the important historical buildings in the city. An advantage of visiting Giessen is its proximity to cities such as Wetzlar and Marburg, whose visit can be combined on a tourist excursion.

Gießen is a German city in the west of the federal state of Hesse, around 64 km northeast of the state capital Wiesbaden. There are about 90.000 inhabitants living in Gießen.

Gießen also includes the formerly independent municipalities of Lahn and Stadt.
