There is a lot to see in Herne. The city is located between Bochum and Recklinghausen. It offers visitors a diverse cultural program and impressive architecture. The artistically designed pedestrian zone Herne-Mitte on Bahnhofstraße invites you to stroll around. A visitor magnet and landmark of the city is the stately moated castle of Strünkede, which was first mentioned in a document in 1243. The castle, which today houses part of the Eschertal Museum, can also be visited. In autumn, a popular medieval festival is held annually in the castle park surrounding the castle.
