Hildesheim is home to two famous places of worship that bring the city's history back to life. The mighty cathedral is the city's landmark and it was chosen as the bishop's seat by Louis the Pious as early as 815. Also worth seeing is the St. Michaelis Church, which embodies the Ottonian-Romanesque architectural style. Above the Nette lies the famous vineyard on whose southern slope vines were already cultivated in the Middle Ages. Everywhere in the city you will find quaint wine taverns serving regional specialties. Hildesheim also has a lot to offer in terms of nature and leisure. The many lakes in the city invite you to swim and sunbathe.

Where is Hildesheim?

Hildesheim is a German city in the southeast of the federal state of Lower Saxony, around 29 km southeast of the state capital Hannover. There are about 102.000 inhabitants living in Hildesheim.

Hildesheim also includes the formerly independent municipalities of Achtum-Uppen, Bavenstedt, Einum, Himmelsthür, Itzum, Marienburg, Marienrode, Sorsum and Ochtersum.
