The Hotel Négresco in Nice is a luxury hotel that opened in 1918 and is now one of Nice's landmarks. The listed domed building in the style of the Belle Époque is located directly on the Promenade Anglais and is one of the most beautiful townhouses in all of France.
The past
The hotel was commissioned by the Romanian Henri Négresco and designed by the French-Dutch architect Édouard Niermans (1859-1928), who also designed the famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. The father of the Eiffel Tower, Gustave Eiffel, constructed the unmissable pink dome. According to legend, the model was the bosom of his lover.
During the war, the hotel was used as a military hospital. After the war, the owners changed, but the old times did not return. The hotel still looks imposing and it has now been run by the Augier family since the 1950s. A special feature of the hotel is also its art collection. Since 2003 the hotel is a state protected monument.
The Négresco had its greatest period before the Second World War, when representatives of the European royal families were regular guests here. But also afterwards the hotel was a meeting place for the rich and beautiful: the Beatles were already here, Romy Schneider with Alain Delon, Edith Piaf, Clint Eastwood, Richard Burton and many more.
The present
The hotel belongs to the hotel association The Leading of the World. Each of the nearly 100 rooms is decorated in an individual style in the setting of the Belle Époque. There are also 21 suites and a fine-dining restaurant that regularly wins awards. The restaurant has received two stars according to the Michelin Guide. What makes it special are the 19th century style doormen.
Since the hotel is located directly on the waterfront, you can walk directly on the shore or go to the beach. The location of the Hotel Négresco is unique. Today, the hotel is very committed to present an extensive program. So there are special offers for families and around restaurant and in the hotel offers for certain holidays like Easter and Christmas.
The restaurant offers special buffets, brunches and special evening events on Saturdays, when the restaurant is restored to its former glory. The bar often hosts small musical events where you can have a long drink or an aperitif. Weddings can also be hosted at the hotel, guaranteeing a truly special event.
