Ingolstadt

Travel Guide & Travel Information
The district-free city on both sides of the Danube about 80 kilometers north of Munich is the second largest city in Upper Bavaria with currently almost 137,000 inhabitants. Ingolstadt was first mentioned in a document in 806 with the name "villa Ingoldesstat". From the 14th to the 18th century, the nickname "hundred-towered city" was also common due to the massive city wall with dozens of towers. Elaborately restored town houses and the old town hall from the 14th century, the former duke's castle from the 13th century as well as the Tilly House from 1710 and fortifications such as Fort Prinz Karl from 1881 characterize the townscape. After 1945, the German car manufacturer Audi settled here, which also operates an adventure park with a museum, demonstrations and gastronomy.
