The northern Ionian neighbor island of Kefalonia is called Lefkada and is directly connected to the Greek mainland in the north in the area of its main town Lefkada by the highway 42. The strait there is partly only a few hundred meters narrow. If one looks a little more exactly, however, it concerns a movable floating bridge in the channel of Levkas. Remarkable is another neighboring island in the south called Ithaca, the home of the legendary Greek hero Odysseus.

About 23,000 people live on Lefkada. The highest elevation, nearly 1,160 meters, is called Elati or Stavrota. The island is a popular vacation destination because of its beautiful beaches, remote mountain monasteries, diverse resort offerings and, last but not least, impressive panoramas.
