Marseille
In the southern French port city of Marseille, a variety of cultural influences come together in an exciting mix. Founded by seafarers in the 6th century BC, Marseille was already a city where immigrants from all over the world made their home. The old Vieux-Port harbor is still a focal point for locals and tourists alike, and is Marseille's famous gateway to the Mediterranean. The Byzantine-style Basilica de Notre Dame, on the other hand, towers 160 meters above the city and is the fixed destination for thousands of pilgrims every year.
